The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power outage affecting parts of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, following the shutdown of a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Ayede Transmission Substation for annual preventive maintenance.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said the maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on May 5, 2026.

According to TCN, the planned shutdown is necessary to enable its engineers to carry out routine checks and servicing of the transformer to ensure it continues to operate efficiently and reliably.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby notifies the public of scheduled maintenance of one of its 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers at the Ayede Transmission Substation,” the statement read, noting that the exercise is part of efforts to keep critical transmission infrastructure in optimal condition.

As a result of the maintenance work, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in the Express, Industrial, and Oluyole areas of Ibadan during the stated period.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause residents and businesses in the affected communities, assuring that normal power supply will be restored upon completion of the maintenance exercise.
