The Taraba state governor, Agbu Kefas has approved the sum of one billion naira for gratuity payments.

Governor Agbu Kefas has taken a significant step towards honoring the commitment of public servants by approving the allocation of one billion naira to clear the longstanding backlog of gratuities.

This marks the first such disbursement since 2011, signaling a profound recognition of the sacrifices made by the state’s workers.

Expressing his determination to prioritize the welfare of civil servants, Governor Kefas emphasized the urgency of settling the overdue entitlements. He directed the Ministry of Finance to expedite the process and ensure that the payments were promptly disbursed.

Governor Kefas acknowledged the regrettable delays in addressing these financial obligations but affirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to supporting those who have diligently served the state. In addition to the initial allocation, he further sanctioned a monthly provision of 200 million naira to reduce the backlog and sustain ongoing payments steadily.

This initiative resonates with Governor Kefas’s campaign promise to address the issue of pensions and gratuities, underscoring his belief in the moral imperative of honoring workers’ contributions. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to timely disburse salaries, pensions, and gratuities, recognizing the inherent injustice of withholding rightful entitlements.

The Permanent Secretary of Pensions, Mrs. Rose Garba Ajiya, echoed Governor Kefas’s sentiments, expressing gratitude for the relief this decision brings to elderly pensioners who have endured years of waiting. She assured that her department is fully prepared to initiate the payment process, with comprehensive and meticulously maintained records ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

With Governor Kefas’s proactive measures and the dedication of government officials, this significant allocation not only fulfills a longstanding promise but also offers tangible relief to deserving retirees, affirming the state’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
