The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has urged Muslims to sustain the spiritual purification and discipline observed during the fasting period.
Ojelabi gave the advice on Tuesday at the third edition of the party’s annual Ramadan public lecture held at the LTV 8 Blue Roof in Ikeja, Lagos.
The lecture, themed “Maintaining Our Spirituality After Ramadan,” drew party members, clerics, and supporters.

In his opening remarks, Ojelabi, represented by Pharm. Muyideen Daramola urged Muslims to refrain from habits that could diminish the gains of Ramadan fast.
He identified three categories of people during Ramadan: those who begin but do not complete the fast, those who start and drop midway, and those who witness it to the end.
“We should thank Allah for granting us the mercy to witness this period. I pray He preserves us to see the end of Ramadan,” he said.
Ojelabi emphasised that the theme of the lecture was both timely and relevant, urging attendees to listen attentively and apply the lessons beyond Ramadan.
“All the bad habits we refrained from during the fasting period should not return after Ramadan,” he added.
Chairman of the Ramadan Lecture Planning Committee, Hon. Moshood Mayegun, expressed gratitude for the successful hosting of the event despite logistical challenges.
He noted that the programme had been postponed three times due to party activities, including congresses and convention processes, as well as changes in the state executive committee.
“Despite the postponements, we thank Allah for sparing our lives to witness today,” he said.
Mayegun also used the opportunity to mobilise party members ahead of future elections, urging them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and encourage others to participate in the electoral process.
“As 2027 approaches, we must ensure we are prepared. I urge everyone to mobilise their families and communities to come out en masse and support President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
Delivering the lecture, the guest speaker, Sheikh AbdulRahman Lawal, Head Missioner/Imam of Nadwat Global Assembly, stressed the importance of sustaining the spiritual gains of Ramadan.
He described fasting as a pathway to righteousness, spiritual purification, and overall well-being.
“Ramadan is a period of spiritual retreat where Muslims learn and relearn how to live righteously. The challenge is to sustain these values beyond the fasting period,” he said.
Lawal urged Muslims to remain consistent in observing the five daily prayers and other acts of worship after Ramadan.
He also highlighted the social and moral benefits of fasting, noting that the exercise fosters discipline, empathy, and communal unity.
The cleric offered prayers for Nigeria, Lagos, and President Tinubu, calling for peace, stability, and continued progress in the country.
