Stakehiolders in the clean energy space in Nigeria have advocated strategic industrial collaboration to successfully achieve the net-zero emissions agenda by 2060.

This was the focus of the stakeholders at the 2026 International Day of Clean Energy, organised by Rite Foods Limited, to reaffirm its commitment to sustainable manufacturing and clean energy adoption through a high-level engagement focused on energy transition and industrial sustainability.

The event, held at the company’s Head Office in Opebi, Lagos, brought together government officials, regulators, energy experts, manufacturers, and sustainability advocates to discuss effective strategies for integrating renewable energy solutions within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector.

In her keynote, the Lagos State Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, emphasised the economic benefits of transitioning to clean energy, citing alignment with global sustainability goals and Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan.

Oshodi stressed the need to shift from fossil fuels to sustainable sources, highlighting the risks, including limited electricity access and reliance on biomass for cooking, and warned that a poorly managed transition could have adverse effects on public health and economic stability.

She commended Rite Foods for leading the charge, calling for industry collaboration to drive the clean energy agenda, targeting net-zero emissions by 2060.

In his opening remarks, the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods,  Mr Ekuma Eze, emphasised that clean energy is a strategic imperative for the company.

He stated that the comapny has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint, with 95 percent of its energy consumption sourced from cleaner sources such as natural gas and solar power, leaving only five percent reliant on diesel.

This transition, he said, has positioned the company as a leader in balancing operational resilience with environmental responsibility amidst Nigeria’s complex power landscape.

The Managing Director/CEO of Rite Foods, Mr. Seleem Adegunwa, reiterated the company’s focus on sustainability as a key element of its long-term growth strategy.

In his address, delivered by Mrs. Barong Asiodu, he highlighted the need for businesses to enhance energy resilience while minimising their environmental impact, viewing investments in cleaner energy as essential for maintaining competitiveness and fostering responsible growth.

The event also featured a panel discussion, where experts explored various aspects, including policy frameworks, technological innovations, financing models, and the significance of collaborative efforts to advance clean energy adoption in Nigeria.

The engagement served as a critical platform for stakeholders to strategise and align on sustainable pathways for the country’s energy future.
