Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has announced that his administration will from 2027 assume full responsibility for funding the annual Ramadan Tafseer, organised by Izala groups in the state, bringing an end to the yearly practice of raising public appeal funds.
The governor made the declaration while receiving delegations of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) from Kaduna and Plateau states during separate Sallah homage visits at the Government House.
Governor Aliyu explained that the decision to fund the Tafseer beginning next year was informed by his administration’s commitment to strengthening Islamic activities and supporting religious development in the state.
He noted that allowing organisers to continue raising funds annually was no longer necessary, given the government’s readiness to provide structured assistance.
To ensure transparency and adequate planning, the governor disclosed that a committee will be constituted to assess the financial requirements needed for the organisation of the Tafseer, with the aim of providing timely and sufficient government support.

Governor Aliyu urged Islamic scholars and preachers to intensify efforts in teaching the fundamental tenets of Islam, stressing the importance of guiding Muslims towards proper understanding and worship of their creator.
The governor assured that his administration remains committed to supporting religious organisations to participate in seminars and conferences on Islamic affairs, both within and outside Nigeria.
He added that such engagements will enhance knowledge sharing and strengthen religious leadership.
As part of broader plans to improve religious infrastructure, Aliyu disclosed that attention will be given in the current fiscal year to the construction and renovation of Islamiyya schools in the state.
He also announced plans to improve cemeteries to ensure they are properly maintained and accessible to communities.
Earlier, leader of the Jos branch of JIBWIS, Sheikh Abubakar Mabera, commended the governor for his continued support for Islamic activities in the state.
Also, the Kaduna branch leader of the body, Sheikh Awwal Romo, praised the governor’s commitment to supporting Islamic causes and humanitarian efforts.
