Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has said that four new motor parks being built across the metropolis will soon be completed, as his administration moves to tackle congestion blamed for a recent fire outbreak at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

The governor spoke on Thursday while visiting the scene of the incident, where shops and goods were destroyed, though no lives were lost.

He said rising population and increased commercial activity have overstretched existing motor parks, making decongestion a priority.

“The congestion in our motor parks is becoming a serious concern due to population growth,” Aliyu said.

“We are addressing this by constructing four new parks in strategic locations across the city.”

According to him, the projects are at different stages of completion and will soon be operational, providing relief to commuters and transport operators.

Aliyu also assured victims of the fire disaster that the state government would support them in rebuilding their businesses.

“We understand your losses, and we will stand by you to ensure you recover and return to your livelihoods,” he said.

He urged residents and traders to observe safety precautions, particularly in handling inflammable materials, to prevent similar incidents.

The governor further called for patience and prayers, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and safeguarding lives and property.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, confirmed that while no casualties were recorded, the fire caused extensive damage to property.

He praised the governor’s visit as a sign of compassion and leadership at a critical time.

The Sokoto Central Motor Park has long faced congestion challenges, with stakeholders calling for expansion and improved safety measures to avert recurring incidents.
