Singer Maya Amolo releases new album ‘The Sweetest Time’

Kenyan rising star Maya Amolo has released her sophomore album, The Sweetest Time, a project already earning high praise for its reflective and emotionally rich exploration of love.

The alternative R&B singer delves into themes of affection, betrayal, healing, and self-rediscovery, wrapped in her signature airy vocals and mellow harmonies.

Known for blending alternative R&B with Afro-pop influences, Maya has cultivated a loyal global audience along with strong support from East Africa’s creative community.

On The Sweetest Time, she departs from traditional notions of sweetness, instead examining its many shades — from bitterness and revenge to decadence and renewal.

Each track represents a chapter in a wider emotional journey, offering intimate glimpses into her “mind palace” of thoughts, experiences, and influences.

Since debuting with I Know in 2020, Maya has steadily evolved her sound, transforming personal reflections on love, self-sabotage, and fidelity into immersive, soulful narratives shaped by her life in Nairobi.

Her new album charts the full spectrum of romance — the thrill of infatuation, the warmth of connection, the pain of betrayal, and the empowerment found in healing.

Maya’s rise has been accelerated by recognition from major platforms, including NPR, The Native Mag, OkayAfrica, Harmattan Rain, and TANGAZA Magazine. She was named Spotify Africa’s inaugural Fresh Finds artist in March 2022, participated in Spotify and COLORSxSTUDIOS’ first African writing camp in 2023, and was selected as Apple Music’s East Africa Up Next artist that same year.

The Sweetest Time also features notable collaborations with Ywaya Tajiri, Nigerian alté artist AYLØ, Albeezy, and Tai Dai.
