President Donald Trump announced on Monday that ships have begun moving freely out of the Strait of Hormuz following Vice President JD Vance’s declaration of a digital agreement with Iran.
“Ships are starting to move, many loaded with oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz. They are traveling along the Southern Highway, which is totally safe, secure, and pristine. There are also other areas for travel!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
However, there have been conflicting reports regarding when the strait will fully reopen.
Previously, Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened on Friday after the agreement was signed in Switzerland. In an interview on “Good Morning America,” Vance clarified, “We signed the deal digitally yesterday.”

Vance also mentioned on Monday morning that discussions regarding the permanent toll-free reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would continue in what he termed “technical negotiations.”
Two semi-official Iranian news agencies, linked to the Revolutionary Guards, reported on Monday that while Iran will allow free transit for a 60-day window during which further negotiations will take place, it plans to impose fees after that period.
Additionally, the international shipping industry has warned that it still considers it very risky for ships to resume transits through the Strait of Hormuz.
