Saxophone legend, Prince Eji Oyewole, thrills at Alliance Francaise

The Alliance Francaise, Michael Adenuga Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos came alive on Sunday, April 2 as saxophone legend, Prince Eji Oyewole, thrilled the audience at the jazz night.

Oyewole and his six-man Afrobars band used the platform to celebrate his 82nd birthday, entertaining jazz music enthusiast in an event that featured other Nigerian Jazz artists.

The octogenarian, whose career has taken him across four continents serenaded the audience which had Marc Berbant, Director of the Alliance Francaise, Michael Adenuga Centre, Chin Chin Umah, Cultural Coordinator of the edifice with some of his songs like ‘Be your brother’s keeper’, ‘ Se Alafia ni’ to the delight of the audience. Two days before at the Bogobiri House, the well-accomplished musician entertained the diverse guests with great tunes and jazz music including  ‘Maria’ originally composed by the late Roy Chicago.

His music showed depth and inspired young musicians to pay attention to doing music as a passion and spend time learning the rudiments of music.

Prince Eji Oyewole who is a crowned prince from Ibadan, Oyo State is a flutist, saxophonist, and band leader of Afrobars.

His decades-old music career has taken him to London, Germany, and France and he distinguished himself as a unique, disciplined, and exceptional musician.  Eji is one of the highlife, Afrobeat and jazz funky musician to have played with greats like Bobby Benson Adeolu Akinsanya, Fela Kuti, Miles Davis, and Bob Marley.
