Residents of Lambe/Akute/Adiyan appeal to Ogun govt over deplorable roads, flyover

Residents and  road users have called on the Ogun State government to, as matter of urgency complete the abandoned Akute -Adiyan road in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The residents while speaking to the Nigerian Tribune lamented the deplorable condition of the road as well as the abandoned flyover

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the construction of the road was awarded by Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration 11 years ago.

The people said they received the announcement of reconstruction of the road, including the flyover by the former governor with joy, beliving that when the project is completed, it will ease the transportation system and also improve the socioeconomic life in the areas.

“Sadly our joy was cut short when the project, which was to be completed under30 months, was abandoned by the present administration in spite of the fact that the former governor and current one are of the same party,” one of the community leaders said.

The Area Community Development Committee (ACDC) in Adiyan Alausa area, Mr Bamidele Baleng appealed to the state government to help fix the roads which according to him, have caused havoc to the people of the area.

Baleng further said the community had been responsible for the grading of the road during the dry season, adding that the people in the area have not been enjoying the dividends of democracy.

“We maintain our roads and provide other social amenities through self-help. We cannot curtail the stress we are facing as of now and that is why we are appealing to Governor Dapo Abiodun to shift attention to our areas.

The situation has affected us so much that all landlords, shop owners and motorists find it difficult to get to their destinations,” Baleng said.

Apart from the road, Baleng added that the abandoned bridge in the area include Ijoko Ogba  Ayo, Agbado,  Lambe Oju-Odo, Akute and Alagbole while that of Akute Alagbole had been completed and inaugurated by Governor Abiodun.

When Nigerian Tribune visited the community, it was observed that the road had been flooded by rain water while motorists and commuters were seen struggling to move out of the flood.

Also, a landlord in the community, Mr Fola Oladejo explained that the state of the roads had discouraged many people to live in the area, just as he said that people don’t go there for house rent due to lack of development.

Ojo further said that if the state government completed the projects, business activities in the communities will improve.

He called on the government to rescue them from miscreants who have turned the down part of the bridge as hideout.

He added that when the under bridge at the Oju-Odo Lambe area was destroyed by flood, motorists and other road users had been using the abandoned bridge to link the under bridge that had been taken over by miscreants .

Mrs Rofiat Adebayo, on her part, explained that the road had been abandoned for years, adding that in the thick of rainy season, residents and business owners usually experience more hardships.

“The road really affected us and it has been like this for many years. The Community Development Association always makes efforts to do some repairs to make it passable during the rainy season. We residents of this community do not find it easy,” she said.

A motorist, Timothy Adelakun regretted that he visited automechanics on a weekly basis to fix his tricycle due to bad roads.

He said that plying the road has become a headache for him, adding that he has no choice in order to feed his family.

Friday Olagoke, also a resident in the area frowned at what he called neglegence on the part of the government. He said that irrespective of their situation they find themselves, they are forced to pay taxes to the government.

He said that their major problem arise from the fact that some past administrations in Ogun State   claimed that residents in this area do not pay their taxes into the Ogun State purse because majority of them work with Lagos State government and their taxes go to Lagos government.
