The Mothers’ Union of the Diocese of Remo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has expressed deep concern about the rising insecurity and the alleged systematic attempts to exterminate Christians in the country.

The union condemned the cruelty inflicted on Nigerians by some individuals who force people of other faiths to accept their religion through intimidation and harassment.

During her presidential address at the 36th Mothers’ Union Annual Conference, themed “God’s Mercy Is Unlimited,” held on Saturday at the Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Anglican Church in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Kehinde Fape, president of the Mothers’ Union in the diocese, urged the government at all levels to take action against the loss of lives resulting from insecurity.

She stated: “The union condemns the ungodly patterns that lead some religious and ethnic groups to regard others as less human and less valuable. It has become painfully clear that there is a deliberate, consistent, and systematic attempt at the extermination of Christians in Nigeria. We stand in solidarity with the Christians who have been affected by this wickedness and call on the government to put an end to this cruelty and dehumanisation against the Church.”

The union expressed dismay over the continuing deterioration of security in the country, emphasising that it has consistently raised concerns regarding this pressing issue. “The nation seems to be plunging further into this societal crisis.”

In her goodwill message, the Chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, Ambassador Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, who served as the Mother of the Day at the conference, praised the union for its choice of theme for the annual event. She highlighted that every individual, regardless of status, class, age, or creed, is a product of God’s mercy and benevolence at all times.
