Police operatives from the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) have rescued Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a tactical operation in Ibadan on Saturday at about 7:30 p.m., during which two suspected kidnappers were neutralised.

Two rifles were recovered from the suspects.

Information gathered by Sunday Tribune revealed that the victims were rescued unharmed after police engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle.

The mother and her twin sons were reportedly taken to a hospital for medical evaluation following the rescue.

Two suspects had reportedly been arrested before Saturday’s operation.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations. He noted that these efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, leading to a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives.

“During the confrontation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and two rifles were recovered.

“The victims were rescued unharmed and are now in safe custody, receiving medical care and support,” the FPRO stated.

DCP Placid added that security operatives had intensified efforts in the area to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate, as preliminary intelligence indicated that some suspects escaped with gunshot injuries.

He also said that operations are ongoing to track, arrest, and bring all those involved to justice.

The FPRO expressed the Nigeria Police Force’s appreciation for the support, cooperation, and patience of members of the public during the operation.

He reiterated the Force’s commitment to combating violent crime, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the courage, professionalism, and effectiveness of the FID-IRT operatives and all officers involved, saying their resilience and commitment were instrumental in the safe rescue of the hostages.

It will be recalled that Mrs John-Paul and her twins were abducted on Wednesday while she was taking the children to school at about 7:30 a.m.

The gunmen, who blocked her vehicle, also shattered one of its side windows before dragging her and her sons into their waiting getaway vehicle.

Immediately the incident was reported, police operatives commenced an intelligence-led investigation, which resulted in the successful rescue of the victims.
