Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a former Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ekiti State Chapter, Rotimi Olabiowonu, popularly known as “Metilo,” and one other suspect over the alleged murder of a 45-year-old man, Ogunsakin Sunday, following a land dispute.
The police revealed that the deceased, a resident of Afao-Ekiti, was allegedly abducted from his residence, assaulted, and later thrown out of a moving vehicle by the suspects before he was rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), where he was confirmed dead.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, September 14, 2026, at about 8:45 pm.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Michael Falade, had ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault, abduction and subsequent death.
According to the police, Olabiowonu, alongside about five accomplices, allegedly arrived at the deceased’s residence in a Toyota bus, dragged him out of the house and assaulted him before whisking him away to an unknown destination.
The command said that while the vehicle was in motion, the suspects allegedly pushed Sunday out of the moving vehicle, causing him to sustain severe head injuries.
The suspects, according to the police, later took the victim to EKSUTH for medical attention after realising the seriousness of his condition.
He was, however, pronounced dead by the medical doctor on duty.
“Following the report, police operatives commenced investigation, visited the scene of the incident, and launched a manhunt for the persons allegedly involved.
“The principal suspect, Olabiowonu, and one of his alleged gang members, Adedoyin Opeyemi, have since been arrested and are currently in police custody.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the alleged gang who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police has consequently directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law,” the PPRO said.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, advising them to promptly report disputes, suspicious activities and criminal incidents to the appropriate authorities.
The command also stressed that disputes, particularly those involving land, should be resolved through lawful and peaceful means.
It assured the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and impartially in accordance with the law.
