The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected informants accused of aiding acts of abduction and kidnapping in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

The development is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement made available to journalists on Monday, unknown armed men attacked the residence of a 46-year-old man in Gwanar Dutse Village, Gwana District, Alkaleri LGA, at about 5 a.m. on 31 July 2026, with the intention of kidnapping him.

During the incident, the victim sustained gunshot injuries to his right thigh while attempting to escape.

He was subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital, Kashere, where he is receiving treatment and responding positively.

In line with the Command’s commitment to justice and intelligence-led operations, personnel attached to the Gobirawo Outstation, led by the officer-in-charge, arrested two suspects in connection with the attack at about 3:28 p.m. on 2 August 2026.

The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Idi Riga of Gwanar Dutse Village and 22-year-old Murtala Sani of Rifta Unguwan Jauro Musa, Gobirawo Ward.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to acting as informants for the perpetrators of the attack.

The suspects are in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for a discreet and thorough investigation with a view to prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reassured residents of the state of the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide the police with timely and credible information.
