OTUNBA Mike Adenuga Jr, Founder and Chairman of Globacom Nigeria Limited, one of the largest multinational mobile telecommunications companies in the country, is 73 years old today. It is 73 years of substance, excellence, service, innovation, impact, leadership, and legacy. His life is a testament to resilience forged through years of hard decisions, to vision sharpened by experience, and to a life lived with purpose beyond self.
Otunba Adenuga’s life from a young age has followed a consistent and an unbroken progression from one phenomenal trajectory to another streak of breathtaking and extraordinary blockbusters in business and enterprise.
A man variously described as an ultra-patriot, a man of immense entrepreneurial acumen, consummate strategist, talent cultivator, global business icon, philanthropist extraordinaire, trailblazer, and savvy manager of human and material resources, he is also, in pragmatic terms, an apolitical businessman with asymmetrical focus on his businesses and humanity-inclined causes.
For many who may not have had the privilege of relating with him at close quarters, the temptation may be great to refer to him as a man of quiet greatness. This is because he is not into public material exhibitionism and neither does he indulge in any artifice or some notice-me contrivances to curry attention. But public attention is ineluctable by reason of the success of his business conglomerate and unmatched acts of philanthropy.
A system and methodical person, Otunba Adenuga’s early rise and accomplishments in business are down to his careful background work, planning, determination, never-say-no attitude, and mapping of the critical success factors to leave no room for failure. Where and when obstacles were erected along his path to success, he successfully navigated through the maze of human and bureaucratic bottlenecks with his infectious aura of excellent human relations and impeccable diplomatic finesse.
He is a man whose vision stretches far beyond profit—an architect of opportunities, a builder of systems, and a cultivator of human potential. Otunba Adenuga has not only built successful enterprises but has also built people. In a world where success is often measured by profit margins and balance sheets, he has chosen a higher calling—measuring success by lives impacted, dreams revived, and opportunities created. His greatest legacy lies in the countless individuals who stand taller today because he extended a hand when it mattered most.
At his core lies immense entrepreneurial acumen. He does not merely chase trends; he anticipates them, studies patterns, and creates value where others see uncertainty. His decisions are guided by insight, discipline, and calculated risk. To him, business is not just about wealth creation, but about solving real problems and leaving lasting impact.
As a philanthropist, his generosity is legendary, intentional and transformative. He gives not for applause but for progress—empowering the underserved and building structures that uplift communities long after his direct involvement. His kindness is strategic, aimed at breaking cycles of limitation and opening doors for others.
A true patriot, he believes deeply in the potential of his nation. Rather than complain about its shortcomings, he commits his resources, time, and influence to its growth. He champions local talent, supports national development, and stands as a symbol of what is possible within his country’s borders.
One constant reference to his high patriotic credentials, which remains deeply etched in the consciousness of Nigerians, was, and is still, his single-handed effort to de-risk Nigeria from the shenanigans of foreign-owned telecommunications networks bent on fleecing Nigerians through their per-minute billing system. In those early days of GSM technology in Nigeria, when services were poor and network downtimes were rampant, subscribers were charged the full cost of one minute even if the scheduled one-minute call had suddenly disconnected after one or two seconds. Nigerians groaned and protested the exploitation to no avail until Glo Nigeria came aboard to introduce per-second billing – meaning that if a call ends after one second, you would only be charged for one second. This was a revolutionary service concept which ensured alignment of service with money paid for, which Nigerians still thank Otunba Adenuga.
Otunba Mike Adenuga Jr possesses a rare eye for talent—a natural talent hunter and developer. Where others see ordinary individuals, he sees raw potential waiting to be refined. He mentors, nurtures, and equips people, transforming them into leaders, innovators, and achievers. His legacy is not just in what he builds, but in the people he raises.

He understands that sustainable success is not accidental—it is designed. Processes, consistency, and accountability are the pillars on which he stands, ensuring that everything he touches is scalable, efficient, and enduring.
In essence, he is not just a man of success, but a man of significance—one whose life is a blueprint for impact, excellence, and legacy.
