…task security agencies on manhunt for terrorists, rescue of abducted civilians
The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has condemned the attack on Kasuwan Daji Market in Demo community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, describing it as an assault on innocent citizens and a threat to peace and livelihoods.
Reports said at least 30 traders, including women and other civilians, were killed during the attack by suspected terrorists. Several others were abducted, while the market was set on fire.
In a statement issued on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, said the incident had caused deep pain for families, disrupted economic activities and unsettled communities that had been largely peaceful.
He said attacks on market women, traders and residents carrying out lawful activities undermine communal harmony and the region’s economic life and should not be tolerated.
The NSGF chairman called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice. He also urged security operatives to step up efforts to rescue those abducted.

He reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to working with federal authorities and security agencies to improve security across the North.
In a related development, the Forum also mourned a boat accident in Yobe State in which at least 25 passengers lost their lives, while 14 others are still missing. The incident occurred when a passenger boat capsized on the Yobe River in Garbi town, Nguru Local Government Area, as passengers were returning from commercial activities.
Speaking on the incident, Inuwa Yahaya conveyed condolences to the families of those affected and described the tragedy as a reminder of the need to give greater attention to safety in transportation.
The Forum, by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Gombe State Government House, called on relevant authorities to intensify search and rescue operations, ensure survivors receive prompt medical care, and enforce safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
The NSGF chairman appealed to residents of the North to remain calm, united and supportive of one another during this period, while restating the Forum’s resolve to work with relevant agencies to address insecurity, strengthen emergency response systems and support affected communities.
