Published by

Lapai Emirate Development Foundation (LEDEF) of Niger State has said that plans were underway to commence the activities towards the foundation’s N5 Billion Appeal Fundraising to fast-track the entire area’s development.

The Chairman Central Working Committee of the foundation, Alhaji Abubakar Kuso, disclosed during a press conference held in Minna to inform the general public about its preparedness to bridge the gap in areas that required attention.

The retired Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration and District Head of Gulu stated that they are not in competition with anyone but aspire to play a  complementary role to government programs and activities, adding that the organization taps into the values of integrity and accountability to foster unity and peace amongst the people.

He further disclosed that the funds realized from the appeal fundraising would be channelled to facilitate economic and human capital development, poverty reduction, education, agricultural and security enhancement, health and social transformation, as well as public and advocacy awareness, including investment in income generating ventures to ensure its financial stability.

Alhaji Kuso reiterated the commitment of the foundation to ensuring various interventions but has been constrained due to paucity of funds, thereby necessitating the plan for fundraising to achieve more success.

He explained further that the organization has achieved a lot since its formation in 2009, which includes the donation of funds and food items to flood and farmers and herders clash victims in various communities, scholarship programs to students from the local government areas, provision of education materials, training of vigilantes, donation of hospital equipment and renovation of schools among others.

The LEDEF chairman emphasized the need for continuous support to the education sector, highlighting that the foundation was making frantic efforts towards ensuring that the teachers’ deficit challenges in the local government council, especially in the 22 junior and senior secondary schools, become a thing of the past including the primary schools in the area.

He applauded the donors and various Committee members for their personal sacrifices towards the achievements recorded thus far, noting that very prominent Nigerians, Philanthropists, politicians, people in the Academia and Business moguls are expected to attend the appeal fundraising on a yet-to-be-fixed date.
