In a move to address concerns about the quality of meals provided in boarding schools, the Niger State government launched a new feeding scheme over the weekend at Maryam Babangida Girls Science College, Minna.
The new scheme according to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed is aimed at providing nutritious meals to students, ensuring their physical and mental growth for better learning outcomes.
During the event, the Commissioner highlighted the importance of nutritious meals in the growth, learning process and development of students.
She said the ministry redesigned the feeding system because aside from the insufficiency in food supply, students were not being fed with a balanced diet.
“But now, the government will start supplying eggs, milk and other variety of foods so that students can eat balanced meals” she declared while warning the Principals of the Boarding Schools against the diversion of food supplies to their schools.
Hadiza noted that some students left boarding schools due to poor feeding systems, saying that the state government’s, new feeding initiative reflects the commitment of the Ministry to prioritize the well-being and academic success of students in the state.
The high point of the event was the symbolic distribution of the food items to some of the principals of the schools in the state with the admonition to them for judicious utilisation of the supplies.
It should be noted that this initiative reflects the commitment of the Ministry to prioritise the well-being and academic success of students in the state.
