Niger: Gov Bago charges youths on digital skills acquistion

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State said he has given approval to kickstart the ‘Skills for the Future’ initiative aimed at developing Information Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge among the youths in the state.

Governor Umaru Bago stated this at the commissioning of an ICT Centre in Minna constructed by Zenith Bank and handed over to Niger State Government.

The Governor said a portal will be opened to accommodate 250 youths, under the first phase of the programme, adding that it will be implemented every quarter.

While appreciating the financial institution for the gesture, Governor Umaru Bago used the forum to call on youths to key into ICT to enhance their capacity as the government alone cannot give employment to everyone.

The Deputy Manager, Zonal Headquarters, Zenith Bank, Hassan Abdulsalam said the initiative was conceived five years ago and is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the financial institution in the state.

Hassan Abdulsalam commended Governor Umaru Bago for his commitment to executing projects for the overall development of the state and also disclosed that Zenith Bank will equally give a facelift to the Abdulsalami Abubakar Youth Centre soon.

He said the Bank will continue to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between it and the State government.

Commissioner for Communication Technology and Digital Economy, Suleiman Isah in his separate remarks, described the gesture as a significant milestone in the journey towards digital transformation in the state.

He re-echoed the important role ICT plays in society saying, it is the driving force behind the socio-economic development of a society.

The ICT Centre is equipped with 120 computer sets, communication routes, three sets of communication switches, CCTV with 36 Channels, 20 KVA UPS, 80 KVA generator, and MTN Radio link among others.
