Nasarawa gov inaugurates 3 CBT centres, commends JAMB

GOVERNOR Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has inaugurated multiple Computer-Based Test centres as part of contributions of the state towards ensuring smooth and hitch-free conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

He also commended the management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for collaborating with the state government to make the three mega CBT centres a reality.

Speaking at the inauguration held in Lafia, the state capital, as part of the activities lined up for the celebration of his one year in office, the governor explained that he decided to complete the projects initiated by his predecessor, former Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura, because of his belief in the primacy of education and the need for the teeming youths in the state to acquire formal education.

Governor Sule disclosed that the memorandum of understanding signed with the board stipulates the roles of the state government regarding construction of the three CBT centres, while the board would furnish the facilities with the necessary equipment.

According to him, the sharing ratio would see the state government owning and managing one of the centres directly, while JAMB would take over the management of the other two, one on behalf of the state government while it owns the other one.

He said his decision to name the CBT centre to be run by the state government after his predecessor, Umaru Tanko Almakura, was because the immediate past governor started the project.

“Today we are seeing continuity in governance at its peak. This is an initiative of the former governor which was started with JAMB. That is why we decided to name the centre Umaru Tanko Almakura CBT Centre,” he said.

He said the centre would not only be for the benefit of Nasarawa State, but also Nigeria as a whole.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Fati Sabo, said, “The state government considered it necessary to partner with JAMB in order to facilitate the operations of the board in the state.”

Mrs. Sabo said the construction of the test centres would go a long way in catering for the yearnings of the teeming population of candidates that yearly seek admission into tertiary institutions.
