My 60-year-old uncle was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Kindly explain what this means and how the disease can be brought low.

Alzheimer’s dementia is most likely caused by a genetic defect—there is no way to lower the risk. While the science is still not exact, it is supposed to be caused by the abnormal buildup of amyloid and tau proteins in the brains, causing disruption of brain cell function.
There are genetic, lifestyle and environmental causes that appear to contribute to the disease process. The disease is believed to be a complex interplay of genetic predisposition, age-related changes, and lifestyle factors that lead to the accumulation of harmful proteins in the brain, ultimately causing neuronal damage and cognitive decline.
