My husband, in-laws, frustrate me because I’m childless, wife seeks divorce

Housewife Rashidat Qadir filed for divorce on Wednesday in the Centre-Igboro area court in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The petitioner claimed that the divorce was essential after 11 years of childlessness and experiencing her husband’s lack of affection.

She said, “My husband and his parents are frustrating me because I have no children. My man also no longer has trust in me. He always has issues with me each time I go out, and he no longer trusts me.

“He believes that it is to visit another man anytime I go out. He, therefore, forces me to swear with the Almighty Allah and the Holy Quran each time I go out, saying that I have gone to have an affair with another man. He goes as far as inspecting my pants to know if I had sex outside.”

Further, Mrs Quadir said that her mother-in-law had often advised her to find another man and quit squandering her youth in their family.

“So, that’s why I packed out of the house three months ago after so many threats, frustration, and pain,” she continued.

Despite this, the respondent stated that he was still interested in marriage and did not kick his wife out of the house.

He said, “I just came home to meet her absence after going to the office. All I can recall is that six years prior, my parents called her parents to inquire if she was the reason we weren’t able to conceive.

“On the issue of challenging her, it is because she refused to allow me to have sex with her for two weeks. That was why I doubted her.”

The respondent further stated that he attempted to resolve the matter by paying a visit to his in-laws, who urged him to exercise patience with her and trust that she would eventually return home.

Judge Shehu Ajimobi gave the respondent time to work things out with his spouse, counseled him to take all the required steps to win her back, and urged her to exercise patience as well. The case was adjourned until November 6.
