Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, is celebrating 27 years in the Nigerian movie industry, marking another major milestone in a career defined by resilience, reinvention, and record-breaking success.
The box office queen shared the moment with her fans on Instagram, posting new photos and reflecting on how far she has come. She credited her longevity in the industry to divine grace combined with consistent hard work.
“God’s favour and hard work have brought me this far,” Akindele wrote, noting that it has been “27 years and counting in the acting and filmmaking industry.”
Looking back on her journey, the award-winning actress said the years have taught her valuable lessons that continue to shape her approach to work and life. According to her, staying grounded has been essential to sustaining success in a competitive industry.
“The journey has taught me that consistency, discipline, and staying focused are key to continuous success,” she stated.
Akindele also expressed gratitude for the new levels her career continues to reach, acknowledging God’s role in her growth. “Thank You, Lord, for the greater heights You are taking me to,” she added.
She did not forget her fans, whom she described as a constant source of motivation. “To my darling fans, I see your reviews, and I truly appreciate the continuous love and support you’re showing,” she wrote, adding, “Eyes on the prize, no distractions.”
Earlier in the year, the actress had reflected on her humble beginnings, revealing that there was a time when she had no spotlight despite holding on to big dreams. She explained that time, growth, and grace eventually transformed that quiet phase into purpose.
Her influence was further cemented in 2024 when her cinema release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, shattered records to become the highest-grossing film of all time in West Africa, earning over ₦1.6 billion at the box office.
Speaking previously about her craft, Akindele described herself as a perfectionist who is deeply passionate about filmmaking and directing. She has also encouraged young creatives, admitting that her road to success was not always easy, but built on hustle, discipline, and an unrelenting work ethic.
