Authorities of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State are working with the security agencies in the state to unravel the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of a lecturer in the Department of Physical and Health Education by unidentified assailants.

Reports have it that the lecturer, identified as Dr Kamal Abdulkadir, was gruesomely murdered in his office at the university campus on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Further checks revealed that the assailants also took away his vehicle after killing him.

The development has been confirmed by the State Police Command through its spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth, who said that the police are actively investigating the heinous crime as it is on the trail of the killers.

ASP Daso Kenneth, however, said that eight suspects have already been arrested in connection with the crime, assuring that a full-scale investigation will be conducted.

He also said that upon receiving the details of the incident, Operatives of the Command swung into action and immediately cornered the eight suspects and arrested them as principal suspects.

According to him, ‘The Command received a distress call on the murder of Dr Kamal; it was confirmed that he was murdered in his office and his car got stolen by the killers.”

The PPRO added that ‘Eight people were so far arrested and they are under investigations to unravel those behind the act.’

The PPRO also called for calm as the situation is under control, assuring that justice will be served at the end of the whole thing.
