The residents and indigenous people of the Okegun Odofin community in the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State have commended the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Idowu Owohunwa, for restoring peace and orderliness in a sting operation after bandits invaded their community

The sting operation was in response to a petition written by the community’s traditional ruler, Chief Shamsideen Ogunloya, to the Commissioner bordering on heinous crimes being committed in the community.

On August 3, 2023, it was reported that some suspected bandits, numbering more than 100, invaded the community at about 2:00 p.m., armed with dangerous weapons, dislodged people living in the community, and took over the community.

A statement by the community’s traditional ruler, Chief Shamsideen Ogunloya confirmed the sting operation, recovery of arms and ongoing investigation.

Chief Shamsideen Ogunloya applauded the deployment of the Police team to salvage the community and return it to normalcy.

He urged the police to remain in the community so as to sustain the peace, adding that the prompt response of the Police Commissioner demonstrates his readiness to curtail crime and criminality and protect the people.

Chief Ogunloya urged those who had been forced to leave the community to return home to carry out their legitimate duties as peace had been restored by the police.
