The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital has disclosed that 25 out of 39 rescued pupils of public and private schools in Oriire Local Government Area have been discharged, having been certified medically fit to reunite with their respective parents.

The affected pupils were taken to the hospital for further medical examination after military authorities officially handed them over to the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, at Agodi State Secretariat, Ibadan, on Monday.

A hospital source disclosed to our correspondent that the process for their release to their respective parents was approved and supervised by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olawale Olakukehin.

The source added that the remaining pupils, who are still on admission, may be discharged on Wednesday if certified medically fit.

It was also gathered that one of the pupils has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

The ailment was diagnosed during a comprehensive medical evaluation conducted by specialists at the hospital.

The child’s parents were unaware of the condition before the medical examination.

“The child has a hole in the heart, which was discovered during our medical assessment. There is no cause for alarm because the child is stable and doing well. We have commenced the necessary medical procedures and will formally notify the Oyo State Government to facilitate the next phase of treatment,” the CMD said.

The hospital assured parents and the public that the welfare of all the rescued children remains a top priority, adding that medical experts will continue to monitor their physical and psychological wellbeing as part of their post-rescue recovery process.
