Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed profound grief over the passing of two members of its staff, Comrade Domingo Michael Adeleke and Miss Esther Adetimehin, whose deaths occurred last week.

The Assembly announced their demise during plenary on Thursday, with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, observing a minute’s silence in honour of the departed officers.

Speaking on behalf of the House, Speaker Obasa described the deaths as a painful loss to the Assembly family and the legislative institution as a whole. He noted that both individuals served with dedication, commitment and exemplary professionalism.

Comrade Domingo Michael Adeleke, an auditor with the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission and Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), passed away while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. He reportedly died on Tuesday in a hospital following a brief illness.

Miss Esther Adetimehin also passed away shortly after giving birth to a set of twins (a girl and a boy). She was a staff member in the Administration and Human Resources Directorate of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission. She was relatively new to the service and was widely regarded as a promising officer with bright prospects before the unfortunate incident.

While praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to formally convey its condolences to the bereaved families through letters of condolence.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s support for the families during this difficult period, urging them to take solace in the impactful lives and enduring legacies left behind by their loved ones. He concluded by praying that the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.
