A 24-year-old lady, Jessica Anthony, who was arrested by detectives in Delta State Police Command, has spoken on why she hired hoodlums to go to her boyfriend’s house to rob him. Miss Anthony said that it was to get about N7 million she needed to take care of her sibling’s hospital bills

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest of the suspect to Saturday Tribune.

It was gathered that the suspect had been in a relationship with the man (name withheld) for about two years, though, according to the PPRO, she said she had known him since 2021.

Saturday Tribune further learnt that Jessica and her boyfriend broke up at a time but reconciled and started dating again.

Unknown to the boyfriend however, the suspect had a plan. SP Edafe said that Jessica, in connivance with one of her friends, Odumu Adaobi, aged 25, who was residing at Ugbolokposo in Uvwie Local Government Area, allegedly went to one of the black spots in Warri to locate the bad boys there.

“She told the boys to go to her boyfriend, without disclosing the relationship. Unfortunately for her, the person she met was a leader in the community who had been working with the police in the fight against crime and in flushing out the bad boys. He also happened to know the targeted boyfriend whom he saw in the photograph brought by the lady to aid his easy identification,” the PPRO stated.

The community leader reportedly contacted the targeted victim and told him of what was being planned against him. On hearing this, the perplexed boyfriend told the leader to play along with his girlfriend in order to catch her red-handed.

Those who pretended to be bad boys were said to have told her that the money they would need to buy tools for the operation was about N65,000. In fulfilling their demand, the lady reportedly paid the hired attackers N50,000 through a Point of Sale (PoS) machine and N15,000 in cash, after which she took them to the estate where her boyfriend was living and pointed at his residence.

“When they were about coming out of the estate, the boyfriend alerted the security of the estate and they were all arrested. That was when she opened up,” the Delta PPRO, Edafe disclosed.

In an interview, Jessica, who said that she stopped schooling after secondary school education, confessed: “My motive for planning the robbery attack on my boyfriend was to enable me to pay my sister’s hospital bill. I needed about N7 million. I wanted the hoodlums to collect his two gold jewelry. I was taken to the bad boys by my friend, Adaobi. I have known her since 2023.”

The boyfriend had shown the police one of the pieces of gold jewelry that had been the target of the women which he said was worth N4.2 million in value. According to him, the second gold jewelry was worth N8.9 million, saying it had been taken to a safe.

“I feel so heartbroken because I never expected this from her,” he said.

The PPRO advised the general public to be careful of the people they hang out with.
