A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian €1 in damages after she was robbed at gunpoint in the French capital in 2016.
The amount was the compensation requested by Kardashian, according to a lawyer involved in the case.
Eight people were found guilty last year for their roles in the robbery, which took place at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week on October 2, 2016.
Two of the robbers, dressed as police officers, forced their way into Kardashian’s suite, restrained her with zip ties and tape and stole jewellery worth more than $6 million. The stolen items included a diamond ring she had worn to a Givenchy show that night.
Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, who was present during the robbery, welcomed the court’s decision in a joint statement.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” the statement to the Associated Press read.
“We are thankful to the court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”
Harouche was also awarded €1, the amount she had requested.
The former receptionist at the hotel where Kardashian was targeted received €109,516 after telling the court that the robbery had left him traumatised. He had sought €550,000 in damages and interest.
The hotel was awarded €50,000.
The convicted robbers became known in France as “les papys braqueurs”, or the “grandpa robbers”, because six of them were in their 60s and 70s when they stood trial.
They were convicted of offences including armed robbery, kidnapping and gang association. None returned to prison because they had already served time in pre-trial detention, and none appealed against the verdict.
Following their conviction, Kardashian said she was “deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case”.
“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,” she said.
“While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system.”
