Kano State Water Board has increased its monthly revenue to over N160 million, a significant leap from the N50 million it was previously generating.
This remarkable increase was announced by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, during a recent press briefing on the activities of his ministry.
According to Commissioner Doguwa, the 300 percent increase in revenue is a result of sweeping reforms introduced by his ministry to transform the water sector.

He noted that the board is now able to comfortably pay its staff salaries, a feat it could not achieve before due to the increment of the minimum wage to N70,000.
“When we came in, the Kano Water Board was generating less than N50 million as revenue per month, but I can now tell you that we are generating approximately more than N160 million in a month, doubling the amount by 300 percent,” he stated.
Doguwa also highlighted that his ministry has conducted a comprehensive census of all industries in Kano.
This census, he explained, was a crucial part of the reform strategy aimed at enhancing revenue collection, improving service delivery, and ensuring fairness in billing.
The commissioner noted that the reforms had created a more financially sustainable water board, boosted staff morale, and laid the foundation for long-term infrastructural development.
He added that while they have been working tirelessly, it is impossible to undo the wrongs of eight years in just two years.
Alhaji Doguwa reassured the public of the Kano State government’s commitment to providing clean, potable drinking water to the populace, which he says will enhance the wellbeing of the people.
