The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced an expedited review of the State Police Bill following its formal receipt by the legislature.

The Assembly, in a statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said copies of the Bill had been circulated to all members for detailed study and analysis.

According to the statement, the Bill was recently read on the floor of the House during plenary, allowing lawmakers to commence its consideration in line with legislative procedures.

It added that members would have the opportunity to make observations and propose necessary amendments aimed at improving the proposed legislation.

The Assembly is expected to schedule the Bill for second reading on 12 October 2026, when lawmakers will further deliberate on its provisions.

Speaking on the development, the Speaker, Rt Hon Jibril Isma’il Falgore, said Kano State was committed to confronting security challenges through proactive measures.

Falgore noted that although Kano remained relatively peaceful compared with some other states, proactive legislation was necessary to sustain and strengthen the state’s security architecture.

He assured that the Assembly would give the proposed State Police Bill the necessary legislative attention as part of efforts to enhance security in the state.
