THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has identified 385 flashpoints and over 200 difficult terrains in Osun State as part of preparations for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
This was disclosed by Hon. Funmiso Babarinde, Chairman of Civil Society Matters, IMOLE Campaign Council, who commended INEC for its proactive steps toward ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
Babarinde said the early mapping of potential trouble spots and logistically challenging areas reflects the commission’s commitment to a well-coordinated electoral process.
However, he urged INEC to go a step further by engaging stakeholders early and sharing relevant information to aid preparations. He specifically requested that the commission announce timelines for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards to enable eligible voters to collect theirs ahead of election day.
He also called on INEC to make available the updated voter registration data and certified voters’ register to all political parties, in accordance with the Electoral Act, to facilitate verification and build trust in the process.
Babarinde noted that the credibility of the election would depend on transparency and inclusiveness at every stage, and not just the absence of violence.
