Former Military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has urged both Christian and Muslim leaders in the country not to relent in their fervent prayers for the continued existence of Nigeria.

The former Nigerian leader and elder statesman stated this while playing host to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chapter led by its Chairman, Most Rev’d Dr.Bukus Dauwa Yohanna, when they came to felicitate with him on his 84th birthday anniversary celebration in his Uphill mansion in Minna on Wednesday.

IBB, thereby, expressed gratitude to the religious body for their visit and prayers in honour of his 84th birthday at his uphill mansion in Minna, saying that “the prayers of both Christians and Muslims have been responsible for keeping the country together.

“I really appreciate you (CAN), for the prayers. I must tell you that the prayers of both faiths, the Christians and Muslims, have been very effective, and it is what is keeping the country.

“I urge you to maintain the relationship in the general interest of the country and the citizens of the country.”

According to IBB, the two religious bodies in the country should further intensify their prayers and call for a more cordial relationship, stressing that “I want you to maintain the sustained relationship because it is very important for the betterment of our development as a country. And the unity and the co-existence in the country lies in the hands of Christians and Muslims.”

Earlier in his remarks, State Chairman of CAN, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, commended the former Military President for his life, which he said, “has continued to be enriched by the love and admiration of everyone.”

Represented by the State Vice Chairman, Rev. Joshua Markus, the State CAN, Chairman Most Rev’d Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, said General Babangida’s remarkable vision and contributions to the development and growth of the country resonate across various sectors, and prayed the Almighty God to grant him good health and fulfilment in the years to come.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the meeting was a special prayer on behalf of the entire Christendom for a year filled with blessings and continued impact on Nigeria.
