I saw the light when I switched to gospel music —NimsiJesus

Promising gospel minister, Nimsi Adeniyi Jesus, popularly known as NimsiJesus, is one of the few worship singers who have tasted the secular version of the industry before finding their real call in the gospel music world. In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, the worship leader, speaks on his experience as a secular musician and how his journey into the music ministry has transformed his life.

What is the distinctive thing you have brought into gospel music?

I thank God for the rare privilege of knowing His heart for me to carry out this great assignment. The distinctive thing I have brought into gospel music is Jesus. What I am saying in essence is that Jesus Christ is ready to do unimaginable miracles through my kind of music. It is all about revealing the presence of God and the heart of God. No one listens to my music with all his or her heart without having an encounter says the Lord.

How did you discover your passion for music?

The journey started at church way back, when I was 11 years old. But I took it seriously outside God sometime around 2013, but not in the way of the Lord. I pushed my career as a secular artiste unknown to me that it was not the path God wanted me to take. I thank God that grace eventually found me and I am back on the track as a gospel minister.

At what point did you take it up professionally?

I have always dreamed of being a mega superstar like every secular musician, so I entered the secular music industry in 2013 based on my love and passion for music without direction.

Why did you dump secular music for the gospel?

God was not involved in my career as a secular musician.  I waited for eight years to grow into who Jesus Christ wanted me to be while undergoing my ministry training without the hope of ever singing again before the Lord spoke and added music to my ministry.

Why gospel and what is the experience like since you dumped secular for gospel?

Who will choose darkness over light? Jesus changed the narrative completely and gave me a life full of light. The experience of being in Christ is a complete heavenly joy on earth.

What are the challenges that have come your way?

Whoever walks with Christ does not face challenges. Jesus has always gone ahead of me because He owns the battle.

How many works do you have to your credit?

My first work as a gospel music minister is entitled, “Trinity”. It is a soul-lifting song that brings heaven to earth as a powerful worship song in expressing gratitude for God’s expression. Even if others don’t understand you, God rejoices over you with gladness. Lord says in Isaiah 30:29 “Your singing will be like that on the night of a holy festival, and [your] heart will rejoice like one who walks [to the music] of a flute, going up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. Also, the book of Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, he will quiet you with His love, he will rejoice over you with singing.

There is every reason people could get distracted, especially with the current situation around the world and in Nigeria in particular. But the only answer is God because He is the only solution to all our challenges and aspirations. So, the best way to get His attention for a speedy answer is through exclusive worship. This is the revelation behind my new work as a channel to get God’s attention.

‘Trinity’ will hit all music platforms for easy access to connect and get God’s attention through worship from October 23.

Who are your role models in the industry?

Jesus is my inspiration. I also respect the likes of gospel ministers: Pastor Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan.

Nimsi is not a familiar name, how did you come about this, which also led you to change your real name?

Yes,  my former name is Adeleke Mathew Adeniyi, but it changed through a divine visitation transformation. The Lord visited me and called me by my biblical name Nimsi. You can read about that in 1King 19:16 and furthermore. On that day, He called me repeatedly and said Nimsi Jesus. He said that that will be your new name. I am hiding you under my covenant forever.

What other things do you venture into aside from music?

By the special grace of God, I am the founder of Adecrusader Gospel Ministry a minister of the word of Christ. I thank God for the grace to be a vessel unto honour and I won’t hesitate to do His will and I pray God to continue to grant me the grace.

Are you satisfied with the state of things in the gospel music industry?

I am satisfied in the will of my Father the one who sent me. Jesus Christ often says that my grace is all you need. His power works best in my weakness. So, now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ can work through me.

How do you intend to impact lives through your talent?

Every impartation comes from my Father, Jesus the one who sent me, only He will manifest His glory through my action.

Even as a gospel musician, temptations abound to occur and admirers from all around, how do you intend to handle all that?

I will continue to focus on the cross. The goal is to heal the world; the presence of the Holy Spirit will perfect the rest.

How do you plan to expand your fan base?

My goal is to act according to God’s instructions; my Father who sent me will expand the fan base. My goal is to build an army for Christ, so, I want to build beyond a fan base. I intend to connect more with my fans too; this is why I also launched #Trintychallenge@nimsijesus, where fans will send a shot video of the rendition of the new song on any of my social media platforms.

Your growing up and educational background.

I was born and brought up in Ile-Ife Osun State and a native of Ila Orangun. I had my degree in Computer Science from Inter-Link Poly Technic Ijebu-Jesa. Osun State.
