I found myself in the modeling industry by fate —Nnaji Tobias

Newly-crowned Mr Tourism Nigeria, Nnaji Chukwuka Tobias, has described his journey into modeling as an experience he never planned would be part of his life, saying he found himself in the modeling industry by fate.

Speaking with R about his career and the feeling that comes with being crowned Mr Tourism Nigeria, he revealed that he discovered his passion for modeling that had been dormant within him, adding that after some initial forays into the field, he decided to take the plunge and compete in the Mr. Tourism Nigeria pageant.

“It was an unforgettable experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally,” he said.

On how the journey started, he disclosed that he had a friend who entered a design contest and was frantically searching for models to showcase his designs.

“That was when fate intervened and I found myself being asked to help out. I hopped on it without knowing a thing about strutting down the runway. At the time, I had never really considered modeling as a serious pursuit.

“But something about that experience lit a spark within me, and I soon found myself receiving compliments on my walk and stage presence. It was like I had stumbled upon a hidden talent that had been waiting to be unleashed,” he said.

Speaking further about discovering his confidence and emerging winner, Tobias stated that there were moments when he felt a little scared.

“But I refused to let that fear hold me back. Instead, I dug deep and put in the work, determined to give it my all and show what I was made of. Looking back on that experience, I realise that confidence is one of my greatest strengths. It’s what allowed me to take risks, to push past my limits, and to emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before,” he said.

He said that it’s difficult to put into words how challenging the competition was, adding that there were many different areas that put him to the test, “from the physical demands of the various challenges to the mental and emotional toll of being away from home and constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

“If I had to pinpoint one specific challenge that really stood out to me, I would say it was the dance rehearsals. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love to dance and have always considered myself to be pretty good at it. But when I was asked to learn choreography for the competition, I quickly realized that I had a lot to learn,” he added.
