I caught my wife putting poison in my food —Husband

Chief Ademola Odunade, president of a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, recently dissolved a three year-old marriage between one Sheriff Adesola and Damilola Adesola on grounds of alleged food poisoning and adultery.

Odunade held that the relationship between Sheriff and Damilola had broken down irreconcilably,   hence, the need to dissolve it.

He awarded custody of their two year-old child to Damilola and directed Sheriff to pay a monthly allowance of N5,000 for the child’s upkeep in addition to been responsible for his education and other welfare.

Sheriff, a businessman and a resident of Omi Adio, Apata area in Ibadan stated that he chose to part ways with his wife in order that he may have rest of mind and live long.

“After I escaped death when Damilola poisoned my food, I thought it necessary to let her go before something more tragic happens to me. access

“I caught her red-handed putting poison in the food she wanted to give me. I reported the incident to her parents, but nothing was done about it.

“Damilola insults and embarrasses me in the public. She fights and tears my clothes.

“As my wife, I did my best to make her comfortable but all she did was to make life difficult for me.

“I don’t want Damilola to kill me, please separate us,” Sheriff begged.

The respondent consented to the suit, but denied some of the allegations leveled against her.

Damilola who earned her living as a hair dresser stated that her husband was a womaniser and that he impregnated one of her friends.

“I moved to my parents’ house the last time we had a misunderstanding. While efforts were ongoing by my parents and his to resolve our differences, Sheriff would take me to a hotel and there make love to me.

“I eventually became pregnant but he refused that I kept it. He gave me N4,000 to abort the pregnancy.

“Sheriff refused to take me back despite efforts by our parents to reconcile us because he had impregnated my friend.”
