The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for House of Representatives in Taraba State, Hon. Ibrahim Adam Imam, on Sunday said increasing poverty among youths and other related issues inspired his decision to contest for National Assembly seat.

Imam, a House of Representatives hopeful for Jalingo, Yorro and Zing federal constituency, also claimed that constituents were not satisfied with what they described as “poor representation” of the current National Assembly member, Prince Abbas, representing the constituency, and want a positive change that would attract development.

The PDP Reps candidate, while interacting with journalists at his residence in Jalingo, also lamented that lack of good representation has dragged young constituents into begging and criminality for survival.

He pledged to ensure massive job creation and skills training for youth and women to tackle the soaring poverty and insecurity rate in the constituency.

“My experience as a former lawmaker and commissioner will enable me to enact legislation that will address problems and advance the development of the constituency, and as well carry out oversight functions to promote good governance,” Hon. Imam assured.

“I am contesting to tackle the growing poverty that is dragging our youth into vices. My desire is to attract development to the constituency and transform the living conditions of the constituents.

“The constituents are not happy with poor representation of the current member, Prince Abbas, and are calling for a positive change.

“My legacies are visible; my four years in the State House of Assembly have left an unprecedented legacies that generations would continue to benefit.

“During my term, I was able to execute projects across the wards that made up Jalingo (I) constituency.

I built a maternity clinic in Turaki A and Sintelin wards. I built a computer home that graduated over 2000 people in different skills and secured jobs for 105 youth.

“My ambition is to build the future for unemployed youth and alleviate poverty among constituents; I want my constituents to understand and choose the part of building a greater future for the people to thrive.

“For over time, people-oriented and people-centred representation has eluded the people of the constituency: “As one who has maintained close touch with the people, I know the problems and the needs of all the ethnic in the constituency.

“I will transform the education and health system across Jalingo, Yorro and Zing federal constituency by attracting facilities equipped with digital learning and medical equipment.

“I will ensure that infrastructural development and youth empowerment are greatly improved in the constituency. I will work closely with relevant stakeholders, agencies and committee to attract federal projects like roads, boreholes and electricity to connect farmlands and wards.

“My hope is also to attract federal skills centres where small-scale entrepreneurs (SMEs) can access loans and also promote agricultural value chain support for the youth and women in the constituency,” Hon. Imam pledged.

While calling on Tarabans to vote out failed leaders for a better infrastructural and economic development in the state, the PDP candidate for House of Representatives described Senator Emmanuel Bwacha as the best choice for Taraba to elect as governor in 2027 election.
