The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has felicitated with former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Rtd, on the occasion of his 89th birthday today, 19th October 2023.
The Governor described General Gowon as “an iconic figure in Nigeria’s history, who played a significant role in unifying the country and shaping the nation’s destiny with his visionary leadership when he served as Head of State.”
Inuwa Yahaya noted the commitment of the former Head of State to peacebuilding, noting that Gowon remains a shining example of a true patriot and elder statesman whose life is worthy of emulation.
According to him, “General Gowon’s sustaining efforts in promoting harmony, fostering cohesion among Nigerians through his National Prayer Movement initiative and other endeavours continue to inspire understanding, good neighbourliness and a high degree of unity and patriotism among the country’s diverse people.”
“His dedication to the spiritual and moral well-being of the nation is highly inspiring,” he added.
The Governor also stated “On this special day, the Northern Governors’ Forum joins the nation in celebrating this remarkable and iconic statesman. We wish General Yakubu Gowon a very happy 89th birthday and continued happiness.”
Inuwa Yahaya added, “It is our sincere prayer that Almighty God will continue to preserve this humble and great leader in good health so that his wisdom, vision, and love for our country will continually guide us in our collective pursuit of a better and more prosperous nation” as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General.
