A non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Women of Glory Foundation (WGF), has urged government at all levels to make women empowerment and skill acquisition for the less privileged a priority in order to put more citizens in the safety net and encourage productivity.
The charge was made at the foundation’s 10th anniversary gala and awards night themed: “A Decade of Impact: Celebrating Legacy, Building The Future”, held over the weekend at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Speaking on the impact of the foundation in the last decade, the president, Lucy Nwajide Obi, said WGF has touched countless lives across board from education by paying school fees to providing succour for those in need and also give food to the vulnerable among others. She said the Foundation will continue to complement government’s efforts to reach out to the less privileged but added that government intervention will go a long way in putting smiles on the faces of the downtrodden.
Nwajide Obi said, “I want to call on our leaders across board to make the welfare of the citizens a priority, particularly the underprivileged among us. This will in no small measure motivate and boost their morale and for us at the Women of Glory Foundation, we’ll continue to complement government’s efforts in reaching out to the vulnerable and empower them. We give glory to God. We’re so excited, we’re so happy. It’s been years of giving, years of impact, years of love, years of charity, sisterhood. So it’s just about celebrating happiness among ourselves. It’s about celebrating the decade of focus, impact, service and transformation. It is a vision to empower women, strengthen families, develop leaders and positively impact on our society. Our impacts have been felt across communities and beyond borders.
“Our success story has been God. None of us can take the glory. It’s God that has seen us through. Some people will tell you that where women gather, people would be fighting but we’re here proving it wrong that women can be together and create amazing moments. We have been doing amazing jobs with countless of projects from ‘Educate A Child Project’ to ‘Feeding of 5,000’ to ‘5,000-Man Walk’ to paying school fees, we’ve done so much. Our impact is not just in Abuja but beyond the borders, actually. We are open to giving more scholarships to our girls and at the same time, empowering the women in need. We have done a lot of things in terms of empowerment that I cannot put figures to.”

She added, “And I can tell you that this is not just about women but children too. We see Foundation in the next decade growing and growing because we’re already beyond borders, we see ourselves taking over and our impacts will be felt all over and across the nation and the world at large. The decade of impact that we are marking is a decade of focus, a decade of charity, of love and even that is good.”
“We, also, through the fundraising that you have witnessed here today, plan to build a shelter for women that are battered. We’re going to have skill acquisition centre. It’s actually a centre of goodness, centre for every woman in the country. You need a shelter, you run to us, you need education, you run to us, you need empowerment, you run to us, whatever your needs are, we are available and that is what the shelter is all about.”
The keynote speaker, Dr Nnenna Onwuzor, charged the gathering to support the Foundation in its mission to empower women, upliftment of families, strengthening of communities, creating platform for women to discover their purpose, build their confidence and maximise their God-given potentials.
“We have gathered here not to merely celebrate the passage of time but to celebrate a decade of impact, resilience, service and transformation. 10 years may sound like a number but behind that number are countless stories of lives touched, dreams revived, family restored, businesses launched, careers nurtured and communities transformed. We celebrate every volunteer, every partner, every supporter and everyone who has contributed time, talents, resources and passion to make Women of Glory what it is today.
“The true measure of an organisation is not the number of years it has existed but in the lives it has changed and Women of Glory has served as a beacon of hope as families become stronger, communities become healthier and nations become more prosperous. Women are not merely participants in development, they are catalyst of transformation,” Dr Onwuzor stated.
