The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released images of a person of interest and announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect involved in the fatal shooting of US conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Tribune Online reports Kirk was gunned down on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, while addressing students at Utah Valley University.

Authorities revealed that the shooter, described as a male who appears to be of college age, is still at large.

Investigators disclosed that a rifle believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from a rooftop near the venue. Phrases linked to cultural issues were reportedly found scrawled on the weapon and ammunition, though officials have not confirmed if they point to a motive.

Surveillance footage and eyewitness videos show a figure moving on the roof before and after the shooting. Dispatch audio also described the suspect as dressed in black tactical gear, including a helmet, mask, and vest.

According to CNN, law enforcement agencies have expanded their search to neighborhoods surrounding the Utah Valley University campus, reviewing doorbell camera footage and other surveillance materials.

President Donald Trump, who credited Kirk with mobilising young conservative voters, announced that he would posthumously award the activist the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance oversaw the transfer of Kirk’s remains from Utah to Arizona aboard Air Force Two.

Kirk’s death has reignited debate over political violence and public safety in the United States. Lawmakers across party lines have called for calm rhetoric and stronger security measures at public events.

Utah Valley University has suspended classes and events until Monday while offering counseling services to staff and students affected by the incident.
