Former Ekiti State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi, has commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for what he described as the visible infrastructural renewal and developmental transformation taking place across Oyo State.
Fayemi gave the commendation while speaking at the 2026 Oyo State International Tourism Summit held in Ibadan, where he applauded Makinde’s governance style, strategic planning, and commitment to sustainable development.
The former Ekiti State governor said Makinde’s administration had distinguished itself by focusing not only on physical projects but also on building enduring institutions and governance systems capable of sustaining long-term growth.
According to him, the governor’s development model reflects a deeper understanding of governance and continuity.
“What Governor Seyi Makinde is doing in Oyo State goes beyond constructing roads and executing projects,” Fayemi said. “He is deliberately building systems and institutions that can endure beyond political tenures, and that is the true essence of sustainable development.”
Fayemi, who openly acknowledged his membership of the opposition APC, noted that objective assessment and fairness demanded recognition of the progress recorded under Makinde’s administration despite political differences.

“I belong to a different political party, but governance should be assessed with honesty and objectivity,” he stated. “Anyone who has visited Oyo State in recent years will admit that there has been remarkable improvement in infrastructure, environmental renewal and general urban development.”
The former governor said the transformation was not limited to the state capital alone but had spread across major towns and communities within the state.
“The changes are visible everywhere,” he said. “From Ibadan to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin, Saki and Eruwa, there is clear evidence of infrastructural development and a government that is intentionally improving the quality of life of the people.”
Fayemi further praised Makinde’s long-term vision, describing it as a model that places emphasis on continuity, institutional stability, and economic growth.
According to him, meaningful development can only be achieved when governments focus on creating structures that outlive administrations rather than pursuing short-term political gains.
He also noted that the governor’s investments in infrastructure, tourism, and urban renewal have significantly improved the state’s attractiveness to investors and positioned Oyo State as one of the emerging economic destinations in Nigeria.
