Food entrepreneurs have called on the Federal Government to scale up efforts toward ending hunger and strengthening food security across Nigeria.
They noted that while insecurity often dominates public discourse, malnutrition remains a silent but equally devastating challenge affecting millions of Nigerians.
This appeal was made during a press conference heralding the 2025 edition of the annual Food Festival, a cultural and culinary celebration, scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on December 13.
Addressing the press conference, the co-organiser of the festival, Opemipo Ogunyemi, noted that Nigeria’s fight against hunger requires deliberate investment in large-scale food production and improved road infrastructure to ensure the smooth movement of farm produce across the country.
He urged the Federal Government to prioritise mass food production in all regions and fix rural and interstate roads to support farmers and ensure food reaches markets efficiently.
While describing the festival as a celebration of food, culture, and community, he noted that it also serves as a civic reminder of the urgent need to make healthy and affordable meals accessible to all Nigerians.
“The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Taste the Culture’. Our own way of fighting hunger and pushing food security in Nigeria, not just in Abeokuta or Ogun State, is by making good and affordable food available to people. Last year’s edition demonstrated the power of food in uniting communities.
“The 2025 Food Festival Abeokuta will take place on December 13th at St. Anne’s Primary School, Oke-Ilewo, promised an unforgettable experience while spotlighting the need for stronger national action on hunger and nutrition.
“For us, food is more than just something we eat; it’s what brings people together. It tells our story, and it keeps us healthy and happy. This year’s theme focuses on showcasing local cuisine while promoting healthier eating habits and greater awareness of nutrition,” he added.
Ogunyemi described the festival as a health-friendly initiative that places wellness and food security at the core of its activities.
Lead Organiser, Ibraheem Ayanpole, revealed that more than 50 food vendors are expected to participate, offering a mix of traditional dishes, modern street foods, and innovative recipes.
He added that the event will also feature live music, games, eating competitions, and pop-up activities designed to engage families, students, and visitors.
Ayanpole further announced a partnership with FaztOrder, which will serve as the official logistics sponsor, managing food delivery and vendor operations throughout the festival.
Reiterating the essence of the event, the organising team maintained that food remains a powerful tool for unity, culture, and well-being.
