The Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Lagos State chapter, has called for unity among its members and encouraged them to embrace specialised skills to strengthen public health service delivery.
The call came during the Badagry 2025 Environmental Health Week (EHW2025) with the theme: ‘Healthy environment, healthy people’.
The president of the association in Lagos State, who is also the Aro of Ibogun land, Dr. Akinyele Babasope Cyril, urged members to align their efforts with national health goals and Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda to promote healthier communities and reduce over-dependence on government employment.
He emphasised the importance of private sector engagement in advancing environmental health practice.
Addressing participants, Dr. Cyril described the programme as a celebration of unity, progress and professional commitment.
He said: “The much-anticipated Lagos Environmental Health Week has come and gone, but the beautiful memories will continue to linger in our hearts for years to come. This was not just a programme, it was a statement of shared love, unity and commitment to progress.”
In a statement released to newsmen, the association expressed appreciation to the environmental health officers for their dedication and sacrifices, which contributed to the success of EHW2025.
Special recognition was given to key government officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, and the Director of Environmental Health Services Directorate, Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, Y. O. Abdullahi, for their support.
The contributions of district directors from the six health districts, particularly Directors of Health Districts 5, 2, and 4, were highlighted as crucial to the smooth execution of the week-long activities.
Heads of departments from 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs of Lagos, especially the chairman of BOHESD, Oladapo Olufemi, and the Head of Department, Badagry Local Government Area, Jegede Atilola, were commended for their exemplary leadership, dedication and hospitality during the event.
EHOAN also honoured past leaders of the association, including Somoye Michael, Adewale Adegoke Adebowale, Omo’ba Daini, among others, for laying the foundation of the association.
Leaders from the state ministries, departments and agencies, as well as key members of MHWUN, were recognised for their steadfast support.
The association further congratulated all nominees and winners in various award categories, emphasising the spirit of healthy competition, inclusiveness, and the promotion of excellence in environmental health practice across Lagos.
EHOAN called on members to continue their collective efforts in strengthening environmental health services and improving public health outcomes in the state.
