Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a resounding victory at the polling unit of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, in Saturday’s governorship election, polling 448 votes to defeat his closest rivals by a wide margin.

Results from Polling Unit 001, St David’s Primary School/Maternity Area, Afao-Ekiti, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, showed that the APC dominated the ballot, securing 448 of the 493 valid votes cast.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, garnered 37 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Wole Oluyede, managed only four votes at the polling unit.

Official figures contained in the INEC Form EC8A indicated that 538 voters were accredited out of 931 registered voters.

A total of 493 valid votes were recorded, while seven ballots were rejected.

The result is considered significant given that the polling unit is located in Afao-Ekiti, the hometown of former Governor Fayose, a prominent PDP leader and one of the state’s most influential political figures.

The overwhelming support for Oyebanji at the polling unit further underscored the APC’s strong showing in the governorship election across several parts of the state.
