Muslim faithful in Imo State have concluded their compulsory 30-day Ramadan, with a call to abide by its teachings.
The Sarkin Hausawa and Northern Community Traditional Ruler, Alhaji Auwal Baba Sulaiman, while briefing newsmen in Owerri shortly after the Ramadan prayers, said it is a day Muslims gather together to thank God for keeping them alive throughout the 30 days of fasting and prayers.
He expressed joy at the successful conclusion of Ramadan but regretted that some Muslim faithful who started the fasting and prayers had died, while many others completed it by Allah’s grace.
The Sarkin Hausawa used the opportunity to pray to Allah to accept their worship and forgive them their sins.
Auwal called on his fellow Muslim faithful to remain steadfast in the spirit of total repentance.
He said, “The most important thing for us is to adhere to the lessons of fasting and prayers and keep to their purpose rather than going back to our old lives and behaviours. If we are found otherwise, it means that the repentance is not from the heart.”
He added that the significance of fasting is to ensure that all Muslims change at least one aspect of their character.
Alhaji Baba Sulaiman pointed out that any Muslim faithful who failed to keep to the stipulated rules of Ramadan or who misbehaved would be judged or punished by Allah.
On the security situation in the country, the Sarkin acknowledged that Nigeria faces security challenges, especially in the northern parts of the country, which have also affected other regions.
He pointed out that the only panacea to the situation is the prayers of Nigerians for God’s intervention.
He called on everyone in the state to join hands in prayer to end insecurity in the land.
