Former governor of Anambra State and presidential aspirant, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated a whopping N30 million to Paul University Awka in support of the institution’s education intervention measures.

This comes as a renowned Sub-Saharan Africa’s first female professor of Mass Communication, Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna commended Obi for his philanthropic gesture towards the education sector.

She described Obi as “a man of the people” and an “incomparable, world-class leader”.

Okunna made the remarks in a statement shared on her Facebook page on Monday after Obi’s visit to the institution on Friday, March 27, 2026.

According to her, the visit brought “immeasurable joy” to the university community, including its proprietor, Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, management, staff and students, who received the former governor during the engagement.

She stated that Obi, acting as a private citizen, has consistently deployed personal resources to support critical sectors, particularly education and healthcare, across the country.

“He constantly criss-crosses the nation, touching lives positively, spreading joy through substantial financial support to institutions,” she said, adding that Paul University has been a recurring beneficiary of his interventions.”

Professor Okunna, who also serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the university, pointed out that Obi’s repeated visits and donations have had significant impact on the institution’s development.

While describing the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) as an “indomitable philanthropist”, Okunna prayed for God’s blessings upon Obi even as she expressed optimism that his vision for a “New Nigeria” would be realised.

Obi has been consistent with his philanthropic gestures with multiple donations to schools, hospitals and social causes across Nigeria which have attracted attention of a great number of members of the public.
