Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has congratulated the Editor of Saturday Tribune, Dr Lasisi Olagunju, on winning the 2024 Informed Commentary Award at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME).

Governor Makinde, who urged the Editor to keep raising the banner of media excellence, said Dr Olagunju has become renowned for excellence over the years, having won the award for a record fifth time.

According to the governor, Dr Olagunju has continued to be a shining example of journalistic excellence and a great ambassador of the Tribune titles, flying the 75-year-old newspaper’s flag as the voice of the masses through his insightful weekly commentaries.

The governor added that the founder of the newspaper and first Premier of the Western Region, Pa Obafemi Awolowo, SAN, would be happy that his vision for establishing the pro-masses newspaper continues to endure through the pens of the likes of Olagunju and the laurels they continue to draw to the Tribune titles.

He said: “I congratulate the Editor, Saturday Tribune, Dr Lasisi Olagunju, on winning, yet again, the 2024 Informed Commentary Award at the DAME Awards.

“This win has become emblematic for Olagunju and the Tribune titles, being the fifth time the Editor has won the award. I am sure that the founder of the Tribune titles, Pa Obafemi Awolowo, SAN, who in his lifetime was renowned for excellence, would be proud of these laurels and the glory these wins continue to bring to the newspaper.

“I celebrate Dr Olagunju and the management of the Tribune on this award.”
