Certificate racketeering scandal: LASU removes Students’ Affairs Dean

The management of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have removed the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor Tajudeen Olumoko and replaced him in acting capacity with Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science.

Olumoku, a Professor of Marketing was removed on Wednesday in connection with a news report published on Monday by an online newspaper.

In the report, the newspaper revealed that a certificate racketeering syndicate had authentic Lagos State University certificates being sold to interested members of the public, who are ready to pay between N2 million and N3 million, depending on the courses involved.

The university had on Tuesday acknowledged this racketeering allegation and declared that investigations had been on for sometime and would make the findings public once concluded unfailingly this year.

However, impeccable sources in the university, who pleaded anonymity confirmed the removal of Prof Olumoku to Tribune Online on Wednesday.

The sources explained that they were in DSA Office earlier today with Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan on seat as a new DSA and people congratulating him.

The sources added that more heads to roll over the matter in the university in days ahead.

But when contacted on phone for confirmation, the university’s spokesperson, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, didn’t answer her call nor reponded to the SMS sent to her till time of filling this report.
