The Right Reverend Dr. Abel Oluyemi Ajibodu, the Bishop of the Diocese of Ile-Oluji (Anglican Communion), has stressed the need for leaders to act with a sense of responsibility and justice.
He made these remarks during his Bishop’s charge at the second session of the fifth synod of the diocese, which took place at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Ile-Oluji from July 24 to July 26, 2026. The theme of the synod was “Justice and Righteousness: Social Responsibility and God’s Concern for the Marginalised”, drawing inspiration from Amos 5:24.
Bishop Ajibodu stated, “Leaders will be held accountable. Justice involves fair wages, honest scales, accessible healthcare, quality education, and systems that do not oppress the vulnerable.”

He further explained, “We can fill our churches, fast for 40 days, and give large offerings; however, if the widows in our communities are overlooked, if workers are underpaid, and if corruption is tolerated, God says, ‘Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps’ (Amos 5:23).
“Worship without justice is merely noise. Justice without worship turns into activism without a foundation. God desires both. Christ embodies justice and righteousness.”
