The Alagura of Agura land, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Oba Ahmed Olakunle Ogunderu, Lions Clubs International, and others have urged wealthy Nigerians and leaders to be concerned about the plight of the underprivileged in society.

The monarch, the club, and others made the appeal over the weekend at the public presentation of Lion Mukaila Ayinla Obadimeji as the 6th president of the Eko Centennial Lions Club in Ikorodu.

The monarch commended Lions Club International for its humanitarian service and urged wealthy Nigerians and leaders to alleviate poverty by assisting the needy in society.

Oba Ogunderu said they should do this to emulate the club in giving succour to the less privileged in the country.

In his virtual speech, the United States of America-based philanthropist Dr Raimi Jimoh, who was the chairman of the occasion, emphasized the importance of caring for the needy and stressed the need for Nigerians to be humane in delivering service for the progress and development of society.

Jimoh, who is the Oluomo of Babanlomo Land, Kwara State, described service to humanity as service to oneself, insisting that society would be better if every wealthy and influential person considered it essential to serve and uplift the less privileged in society.

The club District Governor, District 404A3 Nigeria, Lion Shakiru Balogun, and his Vice District Governor, Lion Folashade Shotomide, in their separate remarks, urged the new club’s president to embark on projects that would add value to the lives of the less privileged.

They also encouraged members to promote the mission of Lions Club International by executing impactful projects in various communities in Ikorodu.
